James Spencer Heiden

James Spencer Heiden, 91, of West Chester, PA, passed away January 22, 2026.

Born June 22, 1934 in Escanaba, MI, he was a son of the late Leslie J. and Marie (nee Gries) Heiden. James was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth L. (nee Houle) Heiden; loving father of Robert Heiden (Cindy), Janie Wermuth (Rob), and J. Spencer Heiden; adoring grandfather of Betsy Cervantes (Sean), Annie Wermuth, Jimmy Heiden, and Bobby Heiden.

He left this world with his family at his side, and with love and prayers.

“Big Jim” was an avid colligate sports fan, most especially of his beloved Michigan State Spartans. He had an infectious sense of humor, a devoted love and respect for anything nature, and gave to those who needed it at every turn.

His entire professional career was in non-profit service. From the first Muscular Dystrophy telethon, to his many years with the National and then Philadelphia Easter Seal Society, his care and concern for helping children defined his heart.

He will be forever remembered for his love of wife Elizabeth, and is now in her arms and at peace.

Services will be private.
