James Fanto

September 27, 1920 — August 18, 2018

James D. Fanto, age 97, of King of Prussia, PA, passed away on August 18, 2018.

Born in Dawson, PA in 1920, he was the son of the late Larry and Maria Angelina Fanto (nee Constantino).



James attended elementary school in Dawson, PA, high school in McConnellsville, PA, the University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.

He had experience in various phases of flying aviation until he graduated.

He received his private pilot's license with an aircraft and engine maintenance license.



James was a veteran of the United States Army/Air Force serving during World War II as a pilot flying B-24's.

He was discharged on January 6, 1946.

From April, 1946 to 1984, he worked for United Airlines in many capacities. In 1968, he took a leave of absence from United Air Lines to become Operations Manager for the Richard Nixon Campaign tour.

He was responsible for three aircraft and crew.

Upon retirement, Jim worked in real estate until the age of 75.



James was married to Mae Elizabeth Marsh for 23 years until her death in 1967.

They had one son, Ronald J. Fanto.

In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife of 49 years Barbara Fanto (nee Anderson), his daughter-in-law, Karen Fanto, his grandson Morrie James Fanto and his wife, Andrea Fanto, and his great-grandchildren Morgan and Stanton.

He is also survived by his sister, Mary Thackeray.

He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Fanto.



Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Saturday, August 25, 2018 1:30-2:30 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to his Memorial Service at 2:30 PM.

Interment will be private.



In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106 would be appreciated.
