James Dixon

James “Jim” Dixon, age 93, of Springfield PA, passed away on July 23, 2026. He was a devoted and loving husband for 53 years to the late Rose Kathleen (nee Cassidy), and an amazing dad and hero to his daughter, Kerri Lynn, both of whom he adored.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary (nee Coyle) Dixon, and by his brothers Patrick, John, Paul, Tony, Michael, and sister Mary. He is survived by sisters Nancy Holland (late Jim), Bridie Healy (Michael), Evelyn McCarthy (Bill), brother Tom, and sisters-in-law Peggy Dixon and Carol Cassidy, along with many beloved nieces and nephews, here on the East Coast and throughout England and Ireland.

Jim was a proud and selfless Irish gentleman – with beautiful, sparkling blue eyes and the kindest smile. He was born in 1932 in Perth, Scotland and raised in Country Mayo, Ireland. With a seventh-grade education and a strong Irish spirit, he left home at the age of 13 to help support his family, working hard labor jobs throughout the United Kingdom – in Edinburgh, London, and Nottingham. He came to the United States in 1956, where he carried his work ethic into construction work, eventually operating cranes and heavy equipment, as a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 542. Jim also served in the U.S Army in Fort Riley, Kansas and was honorably discharged in 1957.

After retiring, he continued to work for many years as a landscaper and handyman for families in Delaware County and around the Philadelphia Main Line. He loved working with his hands on projects around the house and outdoors. He could fix anything and found great joy in simple things, like maintaining his lawn, planting tomatoes in the summer, and feeding the birds and rabbits in his yard. He was a big fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles and could be found on the phone with his nephews after big games, analyzing the team’s play. A former Eagles season-ticket holder, he was thrilled to watch his favorite team finally win the Super Bowl in 2018 and 2025.

Jim was deeply loved by his family and friends here and across the ocean, and also by his daughter’s childhood friends. He was immensely proud of his family, made friends quickly, and was instantly adored by everyone he met - by his neighbors, the companions that spent time with him when his daughter had to be out of town, his doctors and their office staffs, and the tellers at his local bank. Most importantly, he was a dedicated husband, caring for his wife Kathleen as she battled dementia, and never forgetting to kiss her photo, telling her he loved and missed her every night before he went to bed. And not a day went by that he didn’t tell his daughter Kerri he was proud of her, and she and her mom were the lights of his life. Jim was fiercely independent, living on his own in the home he loved and enjoying his evening “nightcap” right until two weeks before he passed. He will be so profoundly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jim’s viewing on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by his funeral mass at Holy Cross Church, 651 E. Springfield Road, Springfield, PA. Interment at St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.
