Hilaire Jogues O’Malley, 87, of New York City, died peacefully on November 3, 2026.
Born in Philadelphia on September 23, 1939, Hilaire was the seventh of eight children. He was an avid traveler with a love of adventure. He was a man of exquisite taste: impeccably dressed, a fantastic dancer, and a delightful dinner companion. He was widely read, appreciated art, and loved all kinds of music, especially opera. Witty and full of humor, he really knew how to enjoy life. His smile lit up a room, and he made the world more fun for everyone around him.
A devout Catholic, Hilaire was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in Yorkville, Manhattan, for nearly forty years. He was a passionate sports fan, never missing a chance to cheer on the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Green Bay Packers and Duke men’s basketball. He also greatly enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball, basketball and all racquet sports.
Hilaire attended Waldron Academy, Germantown Academy, and the University of Pennsylvania. He enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a wealth manager. He began at E. F. Hutton, moved to Salomon Smith Barney, and retired in 2021 as Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley. He treasured his relationships with his clients, many of whom became close friends. He took great joy in serving in the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry and on the Board of Trustees of the American School of Tangier in Morocco. He was a long-time member of The Brook, Racquet and Tennis, River, and Northeast Harbor Tennis clubs.
Hilaire is survived by his dear friend and former wife, Dixie Burden; their daughters, Justine Outwater (Greg) and Alixine O’Malley; his grandchildren, Hugh, Eric, and Kyle Outwater, and Childs, Isabella, and Conrad Hauck; his sister, Kristin O’Malley Russo; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He loved his family with all his heart, as he did his faithful dog, Woodgie.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 13, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hilaire’s memory may be made to Waldron Mercy Academy, 513 Montgomery Avenue, Merion Station, PA 19066.
