Helen M. Thompson

Helen M. Thompson, 98, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away at her home in Overbrook Farms on February 21, 2024. 

Helen was born in Philadelphia on May 12, 1925, the third child and first daughter of Albert B. Thompson, Sr. and Teresa M. Thompson (nee Dwyer). Four more brothers and two sisters would follow. Helen graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School, Mater Misericordiae (now Merion Mercy) Academy, and Immaculata College (now University).  Helen had a long career in business, operating her own children’s clothing boutique in Bala Cynwyd, and running Thompson Carpet Company, the business her father started in Kensington during the Great Depression, until she retired in the early 1990s.  Helen served as a primary caregiver for her aging parents, who were married for more than 70 years and both lived into their 90s.  Helen never married, but she cherished, and in return was adored by, her siblings and her many nieces and nephews and their extended families. She enjoyed spending time in Ocean City, NJ, and followed the Phillies and the Saint Joseph’s Hawks.

Helen is survived by her sister Marie P. Grady of North Carolina.  She is predeceased by her parents and her siblings Albert B., Jr., Joseph R., Robert J., Dolores M. Zeller, Dr. John F., Bernard F., and James F. 

Relatives and Friends are invited to her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 6315 Lancaster  Ave. Philadelphia, PA, on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 10:30 AM.

Interment will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
