Harold B. Hokanson passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at his home in North Wildwood NJ. Harold was born on March 21, 1942 in Chester PA to loving parents Pauline (Watson) Hokanson and Harold Hokanson. He grew up in Morton PA with his parents and sister and graduated from Ridley Township High School in 1960. A year later, Harold met the love of his life, Jeanne Marie (Donahue) Hokanson (whom he affectionally called “Jeanner”) at a school dance. They married on October 17, 1964 and have been happily wed ever since.
Harold served in the United States Army as Specialist 4. He was stationed in Fort Benning Georgia, where he and Jeanne welcomed their first child. In 1966, they moved to Prospect Park PA and two more children followed.
Harold was employed by the Sartomer Production Plant in West Chester PA for 47 years as a manager. He was the company’s longest running employee. He was proud to say he helped to produce the first batch of product in the West Chester location and assisted in the organization of the company’s first location in China. A tireless provider to his family, Harold also owned and operated Timberline Tree Service, spending his weekends climbing and pruning trees with his chainsaw strapped to his belt.
In 1988, Harold and Jeanne purchased a home in North Wildwood, NJ. Forever a big kid at heart, he spent countless long days on the beach with his six beloved grandchildren, jumping the waves, walking the shoreline and sharing a treat from the “Fudgie Wudgie” Man.
An avid angler, Harold spent his retirement years in North Wildwood saltwater fishing in the back bay for flounder and striped bass in his boat “The Squarehead” (a nod to his deep pride for his Swedish heritage) as well as the Cold Spring jetty in Cape May. He was known for his daily five-mile walks along the sea wall, stopping to chat with all the local fisherman about that day’s “fishing report”. Harold was the ever-patient fishing instructor, taking time away from his big catch to untangle a line or help a kid learn to cast. His annual trips to fish the Tay River in Perth, Ontario will forever be remembered by those who spent time with him there.
Harold is preceded in death by his loving parents, Harold and Pauline Hokanson and his beloved granddaughter, Tara Clark. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanne Hokanson, sister Carol Coliukos (Chris), three children Kathleen Shirley (John), Sheila Conmy (Jim), Eric Hokanson (Noelle), and grandchildren Justin Clark (Natalia Jablonski), Cecilia Conmy, Aidan Conmy, Nora Hokanson and Olivia Hokanson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
