Geraldine H. Richenderfer

June 27, 1936 — February 27, 2024

Geraldine “Gerry” Helen (Kodan) Richenderfer, 87, of Glen Mills, PA, formerly of Broomall, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph L. Richenderfer for 65 years.

Born June 27, 1936, in Plymouth, PA, she was the second daughter of the late Felix Kodan and Helen (Kazmierski) Kodan Mattey.

Gerry worked as a registered nurse at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, PA, for more than 30 years. A 1954 graduate of Hanover High School, she earned her nursing degree from Nesbitt Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, Gerry was a devoted matriarch who never missed the opportunity to celebrate every birthday, anniversary, and life milestone in her family. She delighted in spoiling her loved ones; as a marathon shopper, she had the stamina and enthusiasm to find the perfect gift for any and every occasion. For years, Gerry and Joe enjoyed hosting the holidays in their home, where many happy memories were made amidst a sea of colorful wrapping paper.

Gerry was a social person who maintained lifelong friendships with classmates and colleagues. During her career at Riddle, she formed a circle of friends that remained close through retirement, and enjoyed regular lunches and other activities together as members of the Red Hat Society.

During retirement, Gerry and Joe enjoyed vacationing with family at the Delaware and New Jersey beaches, and traveling with friends on trips organized by Middletown Township Parks & Recreation. On their travels, Gerry wrote her grandchildren postcards every day, and brought them souvenirs from around the world.

Gerry was a pop-culture aficionado, and an avid reader of People magazine. She had a consummate sweet tooth, which she passed onto many of her children and grandchildren. She was a huge Neil Diamond fan, and attended many of his concerts with her husband and friends. She was happiest when she was with her family, who were the center of her world, and the joy of her life.

She was an active parishioner of St. Anastasia Church in Newtown Square, PA, for many years.

Gerry was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Karen Woods; her husband, Joseph L. Richenderfer; and her older sister, Eleanor L. Mikula.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Richenderfer; her sons, Mark Richenderfer (Valerie), and David Richenderfer (Michelle); her son-in-law, Thomas A. Woods; her grandchildren, Nicole M. Woods (Stefi Varghese), Sherry E. Woods, Alex J. Richenderfer, Brad J. Richenderfer, Amy L. Richenderfer, and Abbie L. Richenderfer; her sister-in-law, Naomi L. Richenderfer; and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 9 to 10:20 a.m. at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA, 19073. Funeral Mass will be held immediately following visitation, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA, 19064.
