Gerald “Gerry” Martin Mannion, Sr., 71, of Havertown, PA, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025 with his loving wife Dolores and children by his side.
Born on July 24, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William J. and the late Jane R. (née Fitzgerald) Mannion.
Gerry was the devoted husband, for 45 years of Dolores A. (née McKeon) Mannion, and just celebrated their wedding anniversary on July 12th; loving father of Rachel Bartholomew (Tony), Katie Chu (Dave), Emily Thompson (Tim) and Gerry Mannion, Jr. (Molly); adoring Pop of Maeve Bartholomew; Luke, Jane & Abby Chu; Murphy & Annie Thompson; Nellie, Rose & Hannah Mannion; dear brother of Marie Haverty (Jack), Jean Teichman (Richard), William Mannion, and the late Claire McGill (Stephen); and caring brother-in-law of Cathy Nighan, Jean Ralph (Jim), James McKeon (Karen), Ed McKeon (Diane), Thomas McKeon (Diane) and Andrew McKeon (Theresa). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents; in-laws Edwin and Catherine (née Galligan) McKeon; nephews Andy Nighan and Kevin McKeon.
After attending Sacred Heart School in Manoa, Gerry graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School and earned his degree from Villanova University and his MBA from Drexel University.
Gerry had a remarkable almost 50-year career, including 30 years with Sunoco. His work provided him the opportunity to travel and see the world. As a lifelong learner, with an insatiable curiosity, Gerry was always eager to discover something new or pick up a story along the way. He had tremendous pride in his Irish heritage and was a captivating storyteller.
True to his Philly roots, he loved all the local sports and the shore. He enjoyed watching his beloved Philadelphia sports teams. There’s nothing that Gerry loved more than spending time in Avalon, whether an afternoon on the beach jumping waves with the grandkids or watching the sunset over the bay from the deck.
Golf was his true passion - a game he approached with dedication and commitment. He was a member of Overbrook Golf Club for nearly 40 years and enjoyed playing year-round with his golf buddies.
Above all things, he devoted his life to his family. He was a constant and encouraging presence in the life of his children and grandchildren. He was a gentle and loving Pop, and his grandkids couldn’t get enough of him.
Gerry had a strong faith, a generous spirt, great sense of humor, an unmatched work ethic, deep love for life, and lived fully and with intention. He was a true inspiration.
