Gerald P. “Jerry” Katelhon, Sr., age 94, of Radnor, PA, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025.

Born in Atlantic City, NJ, he was the son of the late Henry and Helen Katelhon (née Alpaugh).

At just 17 years old, Jerry demonstrated courage and patriotism by enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he honorably served for four years during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he completed his high school education and went on to attend Villanova University—an achievement made possible by waiting tables in Philadelphia Hotels and selling “Fudgie Wudgies”on the beach in Atlantic City. He graduated proudly in 1957 with a degree in Economics, forever grateful for the experience.

Jerry began his career with Emery Air Freight before establishing himself as a top salesman with Levitt and Sons and March Real Estate in Willingboro, New Jersey—where he even represented the emerging community on television. His dedication and drive paved the way for a fulfilling career in financial planning with Minnesota Life and Lincoln Financial. Over the years, Jerry became more than just an advisor to his clients—he became a trusted confidant and lifelong friend. Passionate about helping others secure their futures, Jerry continued the work he loved with unwavering commitment until the age of 88.

Jerry’s Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life. He attended daily Mass—often twice a day—and was a devoted and active member of both Corpus Christi and St. Katharine of Siena parishes. For nearly six decades, he faithfully served his parish communities as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and committed participant in the Men of Malvern retreats.

A dynamic public speaker, Jerry had a true gift for inspiring others. His passion for motivational speaking led him to become an active and respected member of Toastmasters International and the National Speakers Association, where he not only honed his craft but generously shared his knowledge—often hosting meetings and mentoring others in his own home. Jerry believed deeply in the power of words to transform lives, and he used his voice to encourage family, friends, and clients to dream fearlessly, set ambitious goals, and pursue them with purpose. His ability to uplift and energize others through spoken word was one of his most enduring and influential gifts.

Above all else, Jerry was a devoted and loving husband to his beloved wife, Joan, whom he met on a blind date—a story he often recounted with a smile, saying, “Joan was blind, but I could see.” And indeed, he saw clearly the treasure he had found. Together, they shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage, raising their five children in Willingboro, NJ. There, Jerry created a lively and joyful home, complete with a basketball court and rec room. A lifelong lover of the Jersey Shore, Jerry made cherished memories for his large family by bringing them to visit lifelong friends on day trips and summer vacations to Margate, Longport, and Wildwood.

Eventually settling in Radnor, PA, Jerry and Joan continued to savor life together, traveling to Europe—especially Ireland, a place close to their hearts—and spending treasured time with their 15 grandchildren. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. To them, Jerry was more than a grandfather—he was a true gentleman, a source of wisdom and humor, known for his memorable quips and quotes, love of ping pong and ice cream, Frank Sinatra, and his ever-growing library of motivational books, which he joyfully shared. He led by example, inspiring generations with warmth, wit, and unwavering love.

In his final chapter at Rosemont Senior Living, Jerry continued to make an impact—always a warm smile, and a kind word. Ever the gracious gentleman, he embraced each day with gratitude and grace. As Jerry so often and fondly said, “Thanks for the memories!”—a fitting farewell from a man who gave so many their own to treasure.

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan M. Katelhon (née Witham), Jerry was the loving father of Gerald P. Katelhon, Jr. (Rosemarie), Mark J. Katelhon, Gregory Katelhon, Christine Katelhon-Nascimento, and Karen Blair (Stephen); the adoring grandfather of 15 grandchildren; and the proud great-grandfather of six, with two more on the way. He was also predeceased by his cherished siblings, Joan Petillo and Robert Katelhon.

Family and friends are invited to his viewing 9:45-10:45 AM Saturday, June 28, 2025 and to his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at St. Katharine of Siena Church, 104 S. Aberdeen Ave., Wayne, PA 19087. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 235 Matsonford Rd., Conshohocken, PA 19428.
