George Stafford

July 4, 1935 — October 1, 2018

George Stafford passed into the arms of the Lord on October 1, 2018, joining in heaven, the love of his life, his beloved wife Marion Martha Downey Stafford, on what would have been their 59th wedding anniversary.



George was born in Dromore, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland in July 1935 to the late Mary (Minnie) and Charles Irvine Stafford.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he was predeceased by his brothers James, Bill, and John Stafford, and his sister Meryl Spence.



Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Lester Stafford (Kim) of Glenmoore, PA, Deirdre Smith (Tim) of Newark, DE and Sheila McThenia (Tom) of Rochester, MN and Gainesville, FL, his nine grandchildren, Bryan (Mallorie) and Tara Stafford, Kyle (Desiree), Daniel and Megan Smith, and Tommy, Sam, Andrew and Noah McThenia, and two great-grandchildren, Layla and Emery Stafford, as well as his brothers Sam (Ruthie) and Fallis Stafford, sisters Dorinda Shepherd and Gertrude Hahn, brother-in-law Eric Downey, and many nieces and nephews in the United States, Northern Ireland and England.

George met the love of his life while working as a police officer at the Clogher Police Station in Northern Ireland, in the small town where Marion worked as a school teacher. George and Marion were married in 1958 and made their first home together in the town of Lisburn.

In 1962 they immigrated to the United States along with their infant son.

They were welcomed with open arms and hearts by George's brothers John, Bill and Sam Stafford and their families as they began their new life in America.



George worked as a milkman for Abbotts Dairy before becoming a life insurance agent for John Hancock, a career he enjoyed until retiring in 2010.



A true Irish gentleman, George was known and loved for his kindness, charm and friendly demeanor.

He enjoyed listening to music and singing, especially in church.

He was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church in West Chester, where he attended until his passing.



Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate George's life 11:30 AM, Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Advent Lutheran Church, 1601 Green Lane, West Chester, PA 19382, where all are

invited to visit with the family 10:30 AM.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George's memory to the American Cancer Society.
