George F. Griffin, Jr., 84, of Honey Brook, PA, formerly of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, December 21, 2025. Son of the late George F. Griffin Sr. and Pearl K. Beam Griffin, he was born in Chester County where he lived most of his life. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice Kinden Griffin, and daughters Christine Griffin (Danny Grob) and Erica (Griffin) Colbert (Glenn). He is also survived by two grandsons who brought him immense joy and pride, Ethan Colbert and Matthew Colbert.
George was a proud 1962 graduate of Williamson College of the Trades in Media, PA where he developed his talent as a master woodworker and cultivated his lifelong commitment to integrity in all that he accomplished. George lived by the values he learned at Williamson which he described as “teaching him a way of life”. For over 60 years, George cherished his friendships with classmates and treasured his involvement in the alumni association. His carpentry skills are amazingly evident throughout all of his families’ homes. In 1963 George enlisted in United States Navy where he learned aircraft electronics and served his country for eight years. He was equally proud to be a Navy veteran as a Williamson graduate.
While a carpenter by trade, George established his career in the family business, Wallace Kinden Company. His excellence in the machine shop tool business developed through his skills in sales, problem solving, and natural ability at building relationships. This supported his early retirement at the age of 60. He then travelled the world with his wife Janice and family, fostering his interest in history, architecture, and local cultures. One of his favorite trips was captaining a yacht, Dad’s Dream, and sailing through the Caribbean after his daughter’s wedding in the US Virgin Islands.
An avid boater and sailor, George had a love for the water and embraced any opportunity to be on the oceans, bays, and seas. Since his youth, he owned and raced sailboats (Ready about!) and boated the Chesapeake Bay and beyond. When George’s cabin cruiser, X-T-Sea, became too much to maintain (because he “had” to do it himself flawlessly) he downsized to a “putt-putt’ that he tinkered with and cruised on the Choptank River. George was a member of the Cambridge Yacht Club for the past several years with his daughter. His most unique boating pursuit was the time spent volunteering to restore historical ships including the Sultana in Chestertown, Maryland.
George was known to be a great storyteller, finding common interests with everyone he met. The stories and memories of family, Williamson, the Navy, travelling, and his love of the water will forever be cherished in our hearts. Cheers to sailing through eternity in warm breezes and calm waters.
A celebration of George’s life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:30 AM in the Stonecroft Center for Worship and Performing Arts located at Tel Hai Retirement Community, 4000 Tree Line Drive, Honey Brook, PA 19344.
