Frederick Joel "Fred" Walton, born on June 15, 1952, in Wilmington, Delaware, passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, adventure, and love. He was the son of Joel B. Walton and Elva Crowell and a proud graduate of Kennett Consolidated High School, Class of 1970.
Fred proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, including during the Vietnam War. His military career took him around the globe to Thailand, Okinawa, South Korea, and the Philippines, where he embraced the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and environments. After retiring from the Air Force, Fred continued his dedication to hard work with a 20-year career at UPS.
A true lover of life, Fred found joy in music—especially Classic Rock and Indie Rock. A devoted sci-fi fan, he held a special fondness for Star Wars while also enjoying Star Trek. He was an avid reader, with The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit among his favorite books.
Fred lived actively and passionately; he was a runner, a cyclist, and a self-proclaimed foodie with an adventurous palate inspired by his international travels. His lifelong love of snacks was well known to those around him.
Above all, Fred was a devoted family man. He cherished time with his daughter, EJ, and his beloved granddaughter, Lola Mayumi. Some of his happiest moments were spent sharing snacks, solving puzzles, and creating memories filled with laughter and love.
Fred is survived by his daughter EJ Walton, son-in-law Jeffrey Sekel, and granddaughter Lola Mayumi Sekel. He is also remembered by his former wife, Erlinda Malate Walton; his brother, Richard Brock; and his sisters, Jane Peters, Catherine DiCandilo, and Nancy Miller. He is further survived by nephews Joe, Joey, Paul, and Eric; nieces Heather and Savannah; and great-nephews Anthony, Miles, Mac, and Jack.
Fred will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his sense of humor, and the deep love he shared with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday, September 27, 2025 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment private.
