Frank X. Feller, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2018, after a long illness.
Frank was born in Jersey City, NJ, on March 30, 1926. He enlisted in the U.S. Army following graduation from St. Peter's Prep in 1943. In 1946, after serving as a medic in the ETO in World War II, he attended Syracuse University and graduated in 1949 with a degree in English and a minor in broadcasting. His Iifelong love of radio became his career, beginning at WVPO in Stroudsburg, PA, followed by stints in North Carolina, North Jersey, and Trenton. In the 1960s he was a popular disc jockey on WIBG. In the 1970s he was program director and later general manager at WYSP and in the 1980s he was back on the air as a talk show host on WWDB. During that time, he was active in Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia, serving as president in 1981-82.
His announcing co-love, writing, had continued through the years and included six top-selling children's albums, comedy records, and magazine pieces. In 2006, he wrote his autobiography, A Letter from Dad, to share with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Valerie (McNamee), daughters Michele Faith and Jennine Fellmer, sons Jeffrey and Brian Feller (Jessica Dunbar), grandchildren Collin and Rachele Petit, grandchildren Brendan and Allison Feller and their mother, Christine Cancellieri, his sister Margaret Soule', as well as nine nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his brother Carl Fellmer (the late Elsa) and his sister Catherine Grant (Edward).
Relatives and friends are invited Wednesday evening, March 14, 2018, 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA and to his Funeral Mass Thursday,10:30 AM at Church of St Monica, 635 First Avenue, Berwyn, PA. Interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
