Francis B. Woods III, 77, of Media, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Born January 22, 1949, in Darby, PA, he was the first child of the late Francis B. Woods and Therese M. (nee Gallagher) Woods.
Frank worked as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 40 years, with the latter part of his career spent passionately working as an elder advocate.
A 1967 graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School, Frank entered as a freshman on the first day of the school’s inaugural year. He graduated from La Salle University.
Frank spent his life in service and giving to others. He was happiest when he could make others smile. Even into his illness, Frank continued to make people smile and was known for his warm hugs. Frank simply was love.
He was a self-taught guitarist and enjoyed singing folk songs with his siblings. His many interests and hobbies over the years included fishing and flyfishing, softball, golf, photography, computer technology, and all things Philadelphia sports.
Frank had a lifelong connection to and love for Sullivan County, PA, and its inhabitants, and he had many lifelong friends who lived there. After spending many summers with his family growing up there, he and his brother built a vacation home on the same property as his childhood cabin.
Frank was a friend of Bill and his quiet faith allowed him to make the best use of the program to attain more than 32 years of sobriety. He helped many others find the path, too.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Francis B. Woods and Therese M. Woods; by his brothers, Stephen J. Woods and Michael J. Woods; and by his sister, Patricia M. Bechtle.
He is survived by his siblings, Daniel J. Woods, Mary E. Woods, Therese M. Hopson (Tom), Andrew P. Woods, Bernadette M. Dunning (Dennis), Thomas A. Woods (the late Karen), and Christina M. Mahoney; and by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, Noon - 2 p.m. at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA, 19073. Interment will be private in Sullivan County, PA, at a later date.
