Floyd George Walters

December 23, 1926 — July 20, 2025

Newtown Square

Floyd G Walters, 98, of Newtown Square, passed peacefully at his home in Dunwoody Village on July 20, 2025, blessed with the company of all of his children and grandchildren. Floyd was a loving and devoted husband of 60 years to his wife, Linda, who predeceased him. Known affectionately as “Chief” by his family, he was deeply loved and admired by family and friends. He was a steady presence in their lives — a constant source of wisdom, strength, and wit. A true gentleman in every sense. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down and the love he so generously gave.

Floyd was born in Philadelphia in 1926 and was known by his school mates as “Rocky”, long before Rocky Balboa ran up the steps of the Art Museum. After turning 17 years old, but too young to join the Coast Guard on his own, Floyd obtained his parents’ permission to enlist and he served during World War II. After the War, he attended Drexel University on the GI Bill and was a member of the Tau Beta Pi honor society. He completed his degree in chemical engineering and had a long and distinguished professional career, including serving as President of Catalytic Enterprises and as an executive at Day & Zimmerman Inc., where he was the inspiration for a company award given for excellence in communication and cooperation.

Floyd met Linda in Canada in 1962 and, soon after, they eloped and were married in the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas. They were fortunate to have traveled extensively together and also lived in many countries around the world.

After retiring, Floyd embarked on a new and fulfilling chapter - studying animal husbandry, caring for his Nubian goats and producing award winning cheese on his Iron Bridge Farm in Glenmoore, Pennsylvania. His cheeses earned local acclaim, and the quiet joy he found in this pursuit reflected his lifelong curiosity, discipline, and dedication to craft.

Floyd was admired for his character, integrity and leadership. He was principled, wise, kind, humble, calm, and courteous. His was a quiet, contemplative, and diligent nature. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for never complaining. Shortly before his death, he was focused on comforting his children, assuring them that he had enjoyed his long life, that he appreciated his family immensely, and that he had no complaints. He is so missed by friends and family alike.

Floyd is survived by his children, Graham (Susie), Elizabeth (Avery) and Jennifer (Richard) and grandchildren Graham, Jack, Ava and Sarah. A private family celebration of Floyd’s life was held on July 27, 2025.
