Florence M Baker, 90, of West Chester PA, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025.
Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband of 70 years, Norman M Baker Jr, who passed away in early 2024.
Floss is survived by her children, Norman III (Ann), Linda Senser (Bob) and Eileen Dougherty (Michael); by her 11 adoring grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Born August 12, 1934, Floss was the daughter of the late Joseph Harold and Florence (nee Higgins) Benson. She is survived by a brother Carl Benson, and was predeceased by her siblings Justin, Joseph, Albert, Richard, Rita and Nina.
Floss and Norm had a full and loving life together. They moved their young family to Westtown, PA in 1963, early members of SS. Simon and Jude Parish. Floss was a caring and loving wife and mother, with a warm heart and a ready smile. Floss and Norm were very involved in their church and schools, leading fundraising activities and running fairs. Floss was a Girl Scout leader and a Volunteer at Chester County Hospital. As her children got a bit older, Floss took on the role of receptionist at Peter’s Salon in West Chester, a perfect position for her offering a happy smile in greeting patrons entering for appointments.
Floss and Norm were planners and doers, there were endless projects around the house, and once complete, plans were soon formulated for the next project. Sailing and boating were a big part of their lives. Summer family weekends were spent on the Chesapeake, and friends were invited to join on tropical sailing trips, with Norm and Floss chartering sailboats and making sure everyone had a wonderful time.
Over the years Floss created loving retreats for family and friends in Westtown PA, Sea Isle City NJ, Brigantine NJ and Naples Fl. Floss hosted regular gatherings for her big extended family at their home in Westtown. Floss’s grands all share wonderful memories of trips to the beach or to Naples with Floss as happy and excited as could be on their arrival. Grandmom delighted in teaching the fine points of pinochle, there were fun board games, and her home was always well stocked with ice cream and treats.
Floss was most passionate about her family. She was a selfless caretaker, best illustrated by the many years she cared for her mother (Florence) and Norm’s mother (Anita). She was a beloved grandmom, great grandmom and more recently great-great grandmom. She was able to develop relationships and bonding moments with her grands, she loved them dearly and they felt her love and support. Floss and Norm’s tradition of calling their adult grandchildren to sing Happy Birthday is a priceless memory.
Floss will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Funeral services will be private.
Contributions in Floss’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
