Eugenia Gillespie

Eugenia Gillespie, age 77, of Media, PA, passed away on June 27, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Hugh and Rose Gillespie (nee Boyle) and loving sister of the late Mary Weiss, Theresa Kelly and Rita Kelly.

Jean was a medical records transcriptionist for her entire working career, more than 30 of those years with Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Darby, PA.  In her down time, Jean loved trips to Sea Isle City, NJ, Lancaster, PA and Tacoa, GA, where her sister, Mary, lived.   She enjoyed every minute spent with family and friends, but most especially going on Dolphin Watches out of Sea Isle. Jean’s love of dolphins was evidenced by many glass and ceramic figurines, t-shirts, blankets and stuffed animals.

Jean loved basketball and baseball and went on many field trips to Phillies games, but she always rallied around the Atlanta Braves, since her sister lived in Georgia!

Jean will be deeply missed by ten nieces and nephews and 23 great/great-great nieces and nephews, as well as the countless friends she made in the last eight years at Fair Acres Nursing Home.   Jean’s vast array of colorful comments and suggestions kept daily life interesting for friends and her Nursing & Care Staff alike.  Jean’s nurses and aides became family to her, and we will be forever grateful for the love, care, kindness and support they gave to Jean and us. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 6:00-7:30 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, followed by her Funeral Service at 7:30 PM.  Please wear bright-colored clothing to remind us of Jean’s lively personality and sense of humor.  Interment is private.

The family asks that contributions in Jean’s memory be made to American Stroke Association, stroke.org, or the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.
