Eugene P. “Gene” Heiler, age 89, of Holmes, PA, passed away on July 5, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late John and Irene Heiler (nee Durko).

Gene dedicated over 40 years of his professional life to Pennsylvania Railroad, then Conrail, where he contributed with commitment and expertise. His talent and knowledge of railroads transcended his career, creating an interest that became a hallmark of his personality.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Gene honorably served in Korea, upholding the values of bravery and dedication with distinction. This period of his life not only fortified his sense of duty but also instilled in him an appreciation for camaraderie and service to others.

Gene’s spirit shone brightly within his faith, through his role as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He served his community selflessly and with great devotion. He truly shared all that he had with others with humble generosity and charity. His involvement as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization illustrated his deep-seated belief in guiding and uplifting the younger generation.

Beyond his community endeavors, Gene served as a PIAA Track & Field Official. He fostered an appreciation for discipline and teamwork among young athletes. Many activities were outdoors and sports extended to soccer, with his son John and then his grandchildren. His love for speed began as a race car driver and developed into sharing time and travel with fellow members of the Corvette Club.

In his free time, Gene could often be found immersed in automotive pursuits, utilizing his skills as a mechanic. He passed on his talent and love for homemade pizza, to his family and grandchildren. He had the deepest respect for his in-laws Vincent and Mary Murray and was proud to be their son-in-law. This showed through in his treatment and love for his sons-in-law. Those fortunate enough to know him heard many stories. He loved to make others laugh and learn from his experiences.

Gene was the beloved husband of the late Rose Ann Heiler, whom, for over a decade, he lovingly cared for; adoring father of Joanne Anderson (Michael), Suzanne Heiler Brown (Lewie) Tina Phillips (Brian) and John Heiler; loving grandfather of Kerri and Scott Anderson, Kaia Rose and Elaina Grace Brown, Rachel Phillips, Logan Hait, and the late Brandon Heiler.
