Erna S. Wilcox, 88, of West Brandywine, PA, passed away August 13, 2023.
Born February 19, 1935 in Kingston, NY, she was a daughter of Winnifred Ruth (nee Hahn) Summers.
Early on Erna played on a local women’s basketball team, worked as an operator for the telephone company in Kingston, NY. Later, she enjoyed working in newspaper advertising in both Kingston and Augusta, GA. For most of her life she was happily a stay-at-home wife and mother.
She and her husband, Bill, loved to travel and spent much of their retired life seeing the world and visiting friends. Erna was a Breast Cancer survivor, and also did cross stitch, needlepoint & Swedish weaving, making beautiful accents for her home and her families homes. Erna was also very involved in the Mid Hudson Bicycle Club and was an avid/competitive bridge player. Erna also never turned down the opportunity to meet with friends over lunch or dinner. Over her 17 years at Freedom Village, Erna was active, well-known and loved by the staff and her many friends there.
Erna was the beloved wife of the late William Wilcox; loving mother of Tammy Knutson (Steve); adoring grandmother of Heather Knutson (Francesco Fuccio) and Holly Kane (Matthew Kane) and proud great-grandmother of Gaia Fuccio, Sophia Kane, and Lucia Fuccio, and nieces Denise Roberts and Dana Landherr. She will be dearly missed by her special friend Jim Davis. Erna was predeceased by her sister Ruth Landherr, and by her companion John Elich.
A memorial will be held at Freedom Village in the auditorium on September 11, at 2 pm.
