Emilio Joseph Amoroso

Emilio Joseph (EJ) Amoroso was born in West Philadelphia, December 8, 1929 (the date of the Immaculate Conception, as he would happily mention) and died August 23, 2026 in Pennsylvania.

The first of 6 siblings to be born outside of Molise, Italia, EJ was eager to share that he was born at 61st and Vine in the Overbrook section of the city, so proud of his roots and new beginnings.

As the youngest in his Italian family, working for the local grocer, he was determined to be a priest, until what seemed like a routine delivery was actually the first step to becoming “Pop.”

That grocery delivery included an invitation to a party where he met the love of his life, Gloria. EJ married Gloria DeFelippes, in May 1951. A year later they gave birth to their daughter, Barbara. A supportive and caring father, Barbara was the center of their world.

When Barbara welcomed her two daughters, Leslie and Brooke, a new generation grew to love their “Pop.” Barbara and her two girls, along with Gloria, would be who Pop referred to when he said, “I am the rose amongst the thorns....” and we would say he was, “the thorn amongst the roses.” He was quick with a joke but equally ready to take one in return.

Pop EJ shared a smile and good humor in all aspects of his life; from his business interactions with people at GLAM Enterprises, as part owner of the Manoa Tavern, on the golf course at Llanerch Country Club, and in his retirement with everyone he encountered in Florida, Ocean City, NJ, and Pennsylvania.

Over the course of his lifetime, he made many long lasting friendships that spanned multiple generations among his family. The only thing greater than his sense of humor was his kindness. Pop was a person everyone felt immediately comfortable with, putting people at ease, helping with problems, solving issues and concerns. He was quick with solutions and was able to use his charm and humor to make one feel safe and secure.

While he outlived most of his friends and family, he never met a stranger. Pop was well-regarded where he lived in his later years at Arbour Square, Truewood, and Fair Acres. We are grateful for the compassion and attention he received from his care team and roommate at Fair Acres. From his early days to his last, Pop never stopped spreading joy and positivity to all of those around him.

Pop is survived by his family, Barbara Amoroso (Michael Palmer) of Montana, Leslie Barr (Steven) of Pennsylvania, and Dr. Brooke Cropenbaker (Seth) of Ohio. He was the amazing great-grandfather to Stella and Will. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews of the Amoruso/Amoroso clan.

He will be greatly missed by all, and his legacy of love continues on in us.
