Ellen Duncan Dougherty, a devoted wife, mom, and grandmom passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born in Philadelphia, she graduated from West Catholic High, and also attended Delaware County Community College for 2 years. Ellen was the youngest child of the late George and Ellen (née McHale) Duncan, and was preceded in death by her siblings, Harriet Goldy, Donald Duncan, and Joan Hayes.
Ellen was the beloved wife of the late Bernard Dougherty, and a loving mother to Jeanne Schoepe (Bob), Mary Beth Flynn, and Carol Anne Dougherty. She was preceded in death by her sons, Bernie Jr. (Lucy) and Brian. She was the proud grandmother of Bobby, Erin, Emily, Larry, Matt, Kevin, Ryan, Conor, Sean, Dan, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Joseph Lehman.
Ellen worked part-time in retail for many years, and eventually became the buyer for the dress department at the Weinberg’s Department Store in Havertown. She loved spending time with her family, and summers at the Jersey Shore. Ellen was also an avid reader and an excellent cook. Her loved ones will remember her for her kindness, and the way she always made everyone feel welcome in the Dougherty Family home.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor Ellen at her Visitation, Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008, followed by her Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment thereafter at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
