Elizabeth A. Mitrione

Elizabeth A. Mitrione, 93, of West Chester, PA, passed away on July 26, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born in North Royalton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Ann Felicko and Theordore Novak and the sister of the late Ted Novak (Kitty).

Elizabeth went by many names, such as Bethie, Mrs. Mit, Grandma and MommyGa, but many called her Beth. Growing up in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, she enjoyed riding horses, playing baseball with her brothers, visiting her dad at Higbee’s and learning to do hair with her mother. After graduating from high school, Beth went on to Miami of Ohio and became the first member of her family to go to college. Beth was a cheerleader at Miami of Ohio, a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and the sweetheart of Sigma Chi. Miami was also where she met the love of her life, her husband of nearly 70 years, Bob “Mit” Mitrione, and they would become a “Miami Merger”.

After spending some years travelling due to Mit’s military commitment, they eventually settled down in Drexel Hill which was close to the Philadelphia Navy Yard where Mit could continue his Marine Corps duties, and then to Media, Pennsylvania, where they raised family before they retired to West Chester, PA. Beth was a Physical Education teacher for many years in the Rose Tree Media School District, where she taught at Rose Tree Elementary and Springton Lake Middle School and to this day we still hear from former students who say they “loved having Mrs. Mit!”. She was incredibly athletic, so she was the right person to teach kids the love of sport. Beth remained active after retiring, as she was constantly working on her golf and tennis games into her 80s.

Beth loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time at her and Bob’s shore house in Avalon, NJ and playing bridge. She was a wonderful cook and baker, loved entertaining and dogs, and her and Mit were social butterflies with their dear friends.

There was no one else who she enjoyed spending more time with than with her husband. The two got married during Beth’s senior year of college and would spend almost all their time together until Mit’s passing in 2024. They teased and laughed but respected each other but mostly they cared for each other immensely. They were a joy to be around and always making us laugh. They were lucky to have each other, and we were lucky to have had them both. They shared a unique love for each other that you rarely see. It gives us peace knowing the two have been reunited.

She is survived by her brother Ron Novak (Alice), her two children, Betsy Walsh (Joe), Michael Mitrione (Diane), her grandchildren, Kyle Mitrione (Karolina), Jason Mitrione, Julia Kinch (Patrick), Jennifer Walsh, her two great grandchildren, Cameron and Nicholas Kinch.

Relatives and friends are invited to Beth’s Visitation, Tuesday, August 4, 2026, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and to her Funeral Service, 11:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382. Luncheon to follow. Interment private.
