Elizabeth A. Husain, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at the age of 88. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she lived a life defined by compassion, quiet strength, and deep love for her family.
Born in Bridgeton, NJ in 1937, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Thomas and Kathryn Dailey. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Azam Husain and the loving mother of Zaheer Husain (Barbara), Karim Husain (Rebecca), and Omar Husain. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Leila, Fiona, Madeline, Grace, and Harrison. Elizabeth is also survived by her brother, Thomas Dailey (the late Ann), and was predeceased by her sister, Helen Welter (the late Charles).
Affectionately known as “Betty,” Elizabeth graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and was a nurse at Jefferson Hospital, where her dedication and leadership led her to become head nurse of the neonatal ward. It was there that she met her future husband, Dr. Azam Husain, a resident physician from India. They married in 1966 and raised three sons. After living in London, Ontario and Cleveland, they settled in West Chester, PA in 1972, where they made their home and raised their family.
Elizabeth devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family. She expressed her love in countless, often quiet ways—driving her children to practices and activities, offering steady encouragement and comfort, and filling the home with warmth through her care and cooking. She had a remarkable gift for listening and an instinctive empathy that made her the emotional center of her family. She also possessed a wonderful sense of humor, bringing lightness and laughter into everyday moments. In her later years, her greatest joy came from time spent with her grandchildren, whom she adored.
Elizabeth had many interests and passions. She enjoyed flower arranging, with her work displayed at the Philadelphia Flower Show. She was an avid reader and a curious traveler, visiting India, Japan, China, the United Kingdom, Ireland, continental Europe, Morocco, the Cayman Islands, Alaska, and Hawaii, among many other places. Closer to home, she cherished lifelong visits to Ocean City, NJ and frequent trips to Longwood Gardens.
Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and steadiness that will live on through her family and all who knew her. As we remember her life, we celebrate the profound and lasting impact she had on those fortunate enough to share in it.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, March 1st from 12:00pm - 3:00pm at the Carriage Barn at Liseter, 3904 Liseter Rd, Newtown Square PA. Friends and family are welcome to visit at anytime during these hours.
