Eileen Frances Kearney

January 1, 1929 — September 22, 2022

West Chester, PA Previously of Overbrook and Merion Station

Eileen Frances (Clancy) Kearney died peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2022, book in hand.  She was born on January 1, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, to Francis Michael Clancy and Frances Maguire Clancy.  Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward John Kearney, two brothers, Francis and Neil, and daughter Eileen.

Eileen is survived by four children, Francie (Tom), Neil (Shelly), Anne, and Andrew (Pam), eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Eileen graduated from Immaculata College in 1951 and was married that same year to Edward John Kearney. After spending many of her years caring for home and children, she entered Villanova University in the mid 1960’s to pursue her love of reading, graduating with a Master’s in Library Science.  She was employed by the Catholic diocese as the head librarian with St. Charles Seminary in Wynnewood, PA.  With the full support and assistance of her dear friend, Monsignor Joseph Gleason, she established the library at St. Margaret’s Elementary School, Narberth, PA. The library at St. Margaret’s continues operation to this day. If you visited either library, to the delight of many, you might find her infant son, Andrew, nestled in blankets in a file cabinet drawer.

Eileen and Ed very much enjoyed travel in their retired years and continued their adventures until Ed passed-away in 2002.  Eileen remained an active reader and continued traveling with friends and family. She loved hearing about the fun and games of her children and grandchildren and until her passing, she heard-from and was entertained by many of the offspring of her friends and now older family, whose company she cherished.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation, Saturday, October 29, 2022, 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Church, 208 N. Narberth Avenue, Narberth, PA  19072, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.  Interment St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.

At our mother’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Little Sister’s of the Poor, Holy Family Home, who cared for Eileen’s Aunt Gert Braun-Thompson, who reached the age of 96 when she passed.
