Edward Joseph Trice
May 28, 1937 — October 23, 2023
Jim Thorpe, Upper Darby, North Wales, Glen Mills
Edward J. Trice, aged 86, born in Jim Thorpe, PA, lived mostly in Upper Darby, passed away quietly in Glen Mills on October 23, 2023. Married to the late Patricia Rose Trice (nee McFadden) from June 30, 1962 until her passing on September 26, 2019. Son of Clarence and Emma Trice, father of Edward A. and Timothy J. Trice. Grandfather to Brittany Stant (Robert), Helena Trice, Sophia Trice, and Brendan Trice. Survived by brother Thomas. Late brother Robert Trice and sisters Mildred and Elizabeth passed previously.
Served in the United States Air Force on several different Air Bases including Labrador in Newfoundland as part of the Northeast Air Command.
Worked for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for over 34 years, calling out sick for work on only 8 occasions. Retired in 1995.
Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Knight.
Woodworking hobbyist, dexterous carpenter and skilled electrician, there was no home remodeling project he would not undertake himself. Built many custom Christmas gifts for friends, family, neighbors, and Toys for Tots. As a handyman, he could fix anything “in a jiffy” while you waited for it. If any neighbor in Ivy Court in Upper Darby needed help, he was there for them in any capacity that was needed. Loved setting up an elaborate model train scene every year on Christmas that would circumnavigate the Christmas Tree on a raised platform complete with a town park, ‘”ice skating rink,” and working “street lights.” With wife Patricia, made every Christmas and Thanksgiving Holiday the most cherished memories for family, friends, and neighbors.
Was active in the Highland Park Kirklyn Athletic Association and Troop 251 Boy Scouts of American through the 1970s and 1980s. Loved coaching baseball and going on weekend camping trips and hiking in the Pocono Mountain region.
Always cheered for the Phillies, especially as a fan during the 1980 World Series. Attended the Final Game at Veteran’s Stadium before it was demolished. Yelled “Come on Phillies” at the TV set whenever the Phillies were losing.
A great dad, loving father, dedicated husband, and hard worker. Literally woke up early the day before his passing, believing he might be late for work.
