Edward J. Petro, age 94, of Collegeville, PA, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2018.
Born July 9, 1924 in Freeland, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (nee Metro) Petro.
Edward served his country honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an airplane mechanic repairing and testing aircraft.
After his service he obtained employment as a Corrections Officer at Graterford Penitentiary.
His career there spanned more than thirty-five years and included various roles including administration, manager of the carpentry shop, and, at the time of his retirement in 1989, manager of the Correctional Industries at Graterford.
Edward enjoyed carpentry and woodworking as well as tinkering on engines.
Known as "Jim" throughout his childhood, and then "Pete" in his later years, Edward was known for lending a helping hand whenever needed for friends and neighbors.
After the loss of his beloved wife of twenty years, Judith (nee Ruth) Petro to cancer in 1978, Edward raised their ten year old daughter Julie, dedicated to supporting her and her education.
Edward was the loving father of Julie Mongiello (Matthew); devoted grandfather of Maxwell J. and Daniel N. Mongiello; the dear brother of Margaret Serock (nee Petro).
He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Helen Petro.
Edward is also survived by his loving companion of nearly forty years, Margaret Zimmer, her sons James and John (Anna) and their children Derrick and Desiree.
