Edward L. Doughty

Aug 22, 1942 — Jun 19, 2026

Morton

Edward “Ed” L. Doughty, 83, of Morton, PA passed away on June 19, 2026 at Riddle Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1942, Ed was the son of the late Leonard and Elizabeth (née Magee) Doughty.

He was the beloved husband of the late Loretta (née Battista) Doughty; loving father of Kristen Doughty (Rob Rust), Karenann McDowell (Kevin) and Edward Doughty; proud “Pop” of Victoria Rust, Stella Rust, Maeve McDowell and Nora McDowell; dear brother of James “Jim” Doughty. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Leonard “Bud” Doughty, Elizabeth Drum and William “Bill” Doughty.

Ed grew up in West Philly, served honorably in the National Guard and was a graduate of St. James, West Catholic High School and LaSalle University, after which he was recruited to work for Boeing and began his work there as an Accountant one week after graduation and remained for 35 years.

A devoted Catholic and daily Mass goer, he had a very strong faith that gave him comfort and strength throughout his life. When he could no longer physically attend Mass, he prayed for hours every night, including all the intentions of his loved ones in his prayers.

Ed adored his wife, Loretta and they desperately wanted children, though it was a struggle during a time when there wasn’t much help. They celebrated with each birth, treating each child like a miracle and leaving no doubt how much they were loved and wanted.

Our family motto was “actions speak louder than words”. For his family, there was never a problem too big. He did everything in his power to help and always came up with a plan that began with “WE will get through this.”

Ed was the true definition of a father, a great family man who cared for his special needs son, Edward, was the ultimate provider, protector, problem solver and, later in life, best friend. A caring man and proud Irishman, he was a great friend to so many. He had endless patience when helping with schoolwork and life’s problems. He always encouraged with, “You can do it, you got this, just keep smiling.”

He absolutely loved family gatherings, good food, Häagen-Dazs ice cream, music and good laughs. Thanksgiving was his most favorite meal. Ed found his granddaughters fascinating, incredibly funny and truly enjoyed his Sundays spent with them. As he would tell his oldest granddaughters, Victoria and Stella, “find the fun in life.”
