Edward Harootunian

Edward A. Harootunian, age 90, of West Chester on October 13, 2019.

Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Kellie) Harootunian and the late Rose Marie S. Harootunian; loving father of Edward A. Harootunian, Jr. (the late Sharon), Mark S. Harootunian (Patricia), Paul J. Harootunian (Susan) and Marie Hayes (David); grandfather of 8; dear brother of 2 brothers; uncle to many nieces, nephews. Also survived by many friends.

He was a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and graduate of the International Fabricare Institute, Silver Spring, MD.

Ed became President and CEO of Wharton’s, Inc., in 1971, a clothing, dry cleaning and formal wear company in Haverford, PA.  During his professional career, he was an icon and visionary in the industry he served.  He always strived to improve the image and promote continuing education for the members he represented.  After his retirement in 1994, he was a consultant to Wharton’s, Inc.

Ed volunteered in many civic and fraternal groups such as the Main Line Chamber of Commerce, President of Ardmore Rotary Club, Director of Goodwill Industries, and President of Parents Guild of Immaculata University.  He was a long-time member of the Men of Malvern.

As a 54-year member of SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in West Chester, Ed was a parish Ecumenical Representative, member of the Religious Council of Greater West Chester, and served as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist.  He was also a member of St. Marks Armenian Catholic Church in Wynnewood for over 70 years, served as Parish Council Chairman and on other major committees.

All are invited to his Visitation 9:30 – 10:50 a.m. Thursday, October 17, at SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in West Chester followed by his Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
