Edith M. Powell

Mar 6, 1930 — Jul 4, 2026

Edith M. Powell, 96, passed away on July 4, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved daughter of the late Carl W. and Edith M. (nee Brooke) Maurer.

Edith is survived by her children, Howard A. Powell, Jr. (Cheryl), Wayne Powell (Becky), and Lisa M. DeYoe (Robert, Sr.); grandchildren, Nikki Jordan (Allen), Jacqueline Powell McGrath (Kevin), Andrew Powell, Dustin L DeYoe (Christine), Daniel G DeYoe (Theresa), Jessica Filetti (Jim), Emily M Powell (Rei), Robert Deyoe Jr (Rome), Alycia Rita Smoyer (Bill), Shannon B Spencer ( Shawn Mobley), and David H Spencer (Sonia) as well as the great-grandmother to 12 beautiful great-grandchildren.

Edith was predeceased by her loving husband, Howard Powell, Sr., her daughter, Cindy J. Spencer (surv. Steven) and her brother, Charles Maurer (late Mary).

Edith was born in West Philadelphia and resided on a quiet side street where all the neighborhood children would come and play. Edith loved roller-skating and bike riding. It was here she met her beloved husband as a teenager. After graduating from Overbrook High School, they married and shared a great union for 49 years. They relocated to Delaware County to raise a family, later resuming work for Kelly Services and in various retail roles. A devoted member of the PTA, Edith and her friends organized plays and enjoyed dancing—a passion she held dearly throughout her life. Edith always had many friends, loved to dance, and enjoy the sunshine.

Summers were a fun at Edith and Howard’s house. They hosted backyard picnics filled with family and friends, volleyball and croquet, and of course barbeque. Their home was central during the holidays, where warmth and hospitality abounded.

Edith and Howard shared a love for travel and captured their adventures in photographs. Their journeys included bike rides, attending shows, and trips to the mountains and beach. Their relationship was marked by unwavering love and respect, setting a lasting example for their children.

Edith’s legacy is one of love, joy in simple pleasures, and enduring connections.
