Born on April 26, 1938, on Inishbofin Island, Co. Donegal Ireland, Eamon ‘Ed’ Francis Ferry passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025.
Eamon moved to the mainland at 15 years of age to work at Dixon’s in Meenlaragh, a local grocer and pub. After a few years at Dixon’s which he remembered fondly, Eamon moved to Scotland and later London working in a variety of jobs. In 1960, Eamon emigrated to Philadelphia, joining his sister Agnes and her husband Pat. Eamon stayed after Agnes and Pat returned to Ireland eventually settling in Upper Darby where he lived for forty years. During that time, Eamon joined Acme Markets where he had a long career working at their South Philadelphia warehouse retiring in 2000.
Eamon always worked hard, loved to laugh, have a drink, bet the horses, and visit home in Inishbofin, which he did nearly every summer. Eamon had a strong prayer life and talked often of his parents and life on ‘the island’.
Eamon is survived by his sister Agnes and brother Donal of Meenlaragh, Co. Donegal, Ireland and many nieces, nephews and cousins back home. Here in the Philadelphia area, Eamon has many cousins from the Curran, O’Brien, Brady and Ferry families who knew him as ‘Uncle Eamon’.
He spent his final years at Highgate at Paoli Pointe in Paoli, PA. In lieu of flowers, Eamon requested donations to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Christ the King Church in Gortahork, Co. Donegal Ireland. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082.
