Dr. Louis Samuel Franzini, Jr. May 7, 1935 – March 13, 2026
Dr. Louis “Lou” Samuel Franzini, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, in Chester County, Pennsylvania, at the age of 90. Born in Philadelphia on May 7, 1935, Lou lived a life defined by dedication—to his family, to his community, and to the values that shaped him from his earliest days.
Lou grew up in South Philadelphia, the son of Maria Scassa Franzini and Louis Franzini, Sr., in a bustling, loving household where hard work was a way of life. Determined and industrious from a young age, he put himself through Temple University by rolling steel barrels on the late shift. With the help of City of Philadelphia scholarships, he completed his undergraduate degree in 1956 and went on to earn his dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1960—being an Owl was a source of lifelong pride.
After dental school, Lou served as a dental officer in the United States Air Force, with assignments in Alabama, Newfoundland, and Dover Air Force Base. When his service concluded, he established a dental practice in Kennett Square, PA, where he cared for his patients with skill, steadiness, and genuine compassion for 35 years. He also served on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and volunteered at the Chester County Hospital Dental Clinic. His service extended into the community as President of the Community Chest of Kennett Square and as a dedicated member of the Kennett Square Lions Club.
Yet for all of his professional accomplishments, what mattered most to Lou was family. In 1965, he married the love of his life, Elaine Anzalone. For 61 years, Lou and Elaine built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and unshakable devotion. Together they traveled, hosted family and friends, filled their home with music, and—above all—danced. Lou had a natural rhythm and a joy for movement that could light up any dance floor, and Elaine was his perfect partner for every dance and in every chapter of life.
Lou was an exceptional father whose love showed itself not only in his presence, but in his deep, ongoing involvement in his children’s lives. He celebrated Robert and Kristin’s interests, nurtured their confidence and guided them with quiet wisdom from their earliest years through adulthood. His pride in both of them was constant and wholehearted. Lou was also an adored Poppi to grandsons Alexander and Christopher, delighting in their passions and enriching their lives with his insights while also learning from them the ways of a changing world.
Some of Lou’s happiest days were spent with his family and friends at the shore in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. He body surfed with the kids and read prodigiously with his toes sunk into the sand. Lou was also lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan who approached every season with unwavering loyalty and optimism. For 25 years, he held season tickets and rarely missed a game—cheering with full-throated enthusiasm whether the team was soaring or struggling. Go birds!
Lou is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine; his daughter, Kristin Brandt (Daniel); grandsons Alexander Brandt and Christopher Brandt; and many adoring cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Louis Franzini, Sr.; his siblings Rachel Dolceamore, Rita Nasuti, and Gaetano Franzini; and his cherished son, Robert.
Across nine decades, Lou Franzini led a life shaped by history, grounded in family, and brightened by joy. He remained curious, open-hearted, and ready to dance to the very end.
