Dr. Francis Daniel Cianciulli, MD, of Bryn Mawr, PA a dedicated, caring and compassionate physician specializing in pulmonary medicine, passed away on June 8, 2026, at the age of 86.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Daniel and Rose (née Moccia) Cianciulli.
Dr. Cianciulli’s (aka Dr. C) over 50-year career was marked by his unwavering commitment to his patients and fellow healthcare professionals. An outstanding diagnostician, he was known not only for his clinical skill but also for his compassionate approach to all his patients. He spent most of his career in Delaware County practicing at Mercy Fitzerald and Riddle Memorial Hospitals. After retiring he continued to practice as a volunteer physician for Community Volunteers in Medicine in West Chester, where he used his training to support those in need of access to good medical care. Throughout his career he served in many leadership roles for professional organizations, including Past President of both the Laennec Society of America and The American Lung Association. These roles underscored his dedication to supporting advancements in pulmonary health, the ethical practice of medicine, and his professional peers.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dr. Cianciulli honorably served during the Vietnam War stationed at the former Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver where he cared for soldiers and their families specializing in the treatment of tuberculosis.
His personal passions were as rich as his professional life. Dr. Cianciulli was a talented musician, devoting 30 years as a member of the Bryn Mawr Mainliners Barbershop Chorus and participating actively in the St. John Neumann Parish Choir in Bryn Mawr. These pursuits reflected his love for community and the arts. He also spent many years playing the guitar and leading many family John Denver sing-a-longs. He and Kathy along with their dear friends were regulars at the Philadelphia Orchestra for many years.
Dr. Cianciulli was longtime summer resident of Sea Isle City. He loved to sit on the beach, read a good book, and watch the waves. His Sea Isle home became the place for family gatherings and was made even more complete with the addition of his five grandchildren. He was "Granddaddy extraordinaire," and could always be found in the stands taking pictures at a soccer or baseball game, on the banks of the Schuylkill at a regatta or in the audience videotaping a dance recital. He was beloved by his grandchildren, and he helped raise them to be the amazing young adults they are today. He and Grammy were never too busy for the “kids” and loved nothing more than loading them into their minivan for a fun outing.
Dr. C, leaves behind a legacy of medical excellence, community service, and heartfelt devotion to his passions and loved ones. His memory will be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He loved a good glass of red wine, a good round of golf with his buddies, enjoyed entertaining friends at his and Kathy’s long-time home they lovingly built together in Broomall, and was a huge Phillies phan.
Dr. Cianciulli was the beloved husband of Kathleen (née McCann) Cianciulli; the loving father of Lisa Borowski (Mark), Lori Moffa (Anthony), Frank Cianciulli (Vicki), and loving uncle of Jennifer Burns (Lance). He was the proud and caring grandfather of Ryan Borowski, Justin Borowski, Antonia Moffa, Zachary Moffa, and Triston Burns. Dr. Frank is predeceased by his dear sister, Gilda Cianciulli.
