Dorothy Elsie McParland (née Elliott), age 84, of West Brandywine, Lake Wallenpaupack, and Upper Darby, PA, passed away on November 13, 2023.
Born in Philadelphia, PA at Misercordia Hospital, she was the daughter of the late David James, Sr., and Dorothy Regina (née Barlow) Elliott.
Dorothy was the loving mother of Robert Joseph McGrath (Michelle), Dorothy Regina Fossett (John), Lisa Ann Leimbach (Eric) and Timothy Elliott McGrath (Sidney Slaymaker). She was the dear step-mother of Carolyn Schumacher (Scott), Charles McParland (Teri), Christopher McParland (Amy), Cathleen Pezzano (Mark), and Christine Kennedy (Mark). Dorothy was the devoted grandmother of 21, and the caring great-grandmother of 31. She was the dear sister of Margaret Mary Dorman (the late George), Elizabeth Louise Stromberg (Paul), the late Regina Marie Palmer (the late William), David James Elliott, Jr. (the late Kathy), James Joseph Elliott (Kathy) and the late Timothy Elliott. Dorothy is also survived by her first husband, Bob McGrath, her second husband, Wil McParland, as well as her best friend, Kathy Grazel.
Dorothy’s employment spanned from Tesslers on Long Lane, the Holiday Inn on City Line Avenue, a gift shop in the Springfield Mall, and Aramark in Conshohocken. She also volunteered for Tafton Fire Company.
Dorothy was loved by all. She was very devoted to God and did the St. Anne Novena at the Basilica every summer while living at Lake Wallenpaupack. She was both a baby and dog whisperer. She was fun-loving, sweet, affectionate, generous, stylish, classy, uplifting, hardworking, and a shoulder to cry on.
Dorothy especially loved the times when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited her lake house going on the boat and feeding the deer.
Her last years she spent living with her daughter, Sissy, and then reconciling with her first husband, Bob. They spent two wonderful years together. Her last few months, she spent with her daughter, Lisa, whom she loved dearly.
Dorothy enjoyed reading, word searches, walking, boating on the lake, and feeding the deer. Her dogs were very special to her and above all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her precious gems.
