Dorothy Cecelia Bailer

August 11, 1948 — March 12, 2026

Downingtown

"When Irish eyes are smiling, sure, it's like a morn in Spring,
In the lilt of Irish laughter, You can hear the angels sing,
When Irish hearts are happy, All the world seems bright and gay,
And when Irish eyes are smiling, sure, they steal your heart away.”

And steal our hearts away, she did. Dorothy Cecelia Bailer, a woman of immense warmth, gentle nature, and an unmistakable Irish spirit, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. Dorothy is survived by her brother Joseph (Nancy) Bailer, her nephews and niece, Joshua (Kirsten) Bailer, Jeremy Bailer, and Brooke (Adam) Benforado and her grand-nieces and nephews, Madison, Sydney, Max, Mira, Miles, Luca, and Maverick.

Born in Philadelphia on a sunny August 11, 1948, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Dorothy and Herman Joseph Bailer and the adored younger sister of Joseph Bailer. From her earliest days, Dorothy held a deep, enduring bond with her mother—a love that remained the North Star of her life through her very last moments.

A graduate of The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, Dorothy followed her calling to care for others by pursuing a nursing degree. Her career was a reflection of her heart: she served patients with a wide range of needs, eventually combining her medical expertise with her passion for adventure as a traveling nurse. Her professional journey later led her to GlaxoSmithKline and finally to Bailer Research, where she had the joy of working alongside her brother, Joseph.

Dorothy was a woman of two worlds: she was an avid traveler who loved immersing herself in new cultures and adventure, yet she found her greatest peace at home. There was nothing she enjoyed more than returning from a journey to sit on her deck in Downingtown, Pennsylvania gazing out at Marsh Harbour lake or relaxing on the back deck “down the shore” in Ocean City, New Jersey looking out at the ocean.

Her capacity for affection extended to all living things. She treated her beloved dogs, Baily and Tia, with unmatched tenderness, and she took great joy in doting on the young people in her life. Whether it was her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, or the neighborhood children, “Aunt Dorothy” never missed a milestone. Her loved ones could always count on a thoughtful card, a phone call, or a signature emoji-filled text message to mark a birthday or special event.

To receive a hug and a radiant smile from Dorothy was to know you were truly loved. Her legacy is one of kindness, care, and a joy that—much like the song she loved—made the world seem a little more bright and gay.
