Doris Polito

May 6, 1935 — August 7, 2021

Doris Polito, née Gormley, passed away peacefully at her home in Tampa, Florida on August 7, 2021.  She was the beloved wife of the late Louis S. Polito, with whom she shared 26 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1935, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Mary M. Quilter Gormley. She graduated from West Catholic Girls High School and in her youth, she was a proud member and volunteer of the Tri-Community Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. She was employed at Bell Telephone as a young woman and volunteered as a reading aide at St Anastasia while her children were students there.  Later, when her kids were grown, she worked for a time at Chester County Hospital and at Broomall Presbyterian Nursing Home, but her primary focus was as loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She raised her family in Newtown Square, PA, in what she would often describe as the best neighborhood to raise children because “all the moms kept an eye out for all the kids“.  Those moms became some of her most enduring, life-long friends.

Doris loved people and her coffee pot was always ready for whoever may pop in – no invitations necessary.  With her husband Lou, she hosted an annual picnic for family and for friends – old, new and soon-to-be. Her most valued possessions were her photographs in well-worn books that she looked at often. She loved to dance and sing.

She is survived by her loving children, by birth and marriage, Donna Dasher (Keith), Don Eash (Tonia), Denise Reino (John), Dianne Malatesta and Dan Eash, Steven Polito, Jane Polito Marks and June Polito Stafford (Glenn).   She loved being a grandma and was devoted to her 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her beloved brother, Joseph Gormley, her sisters-in-law, Joan Gormley and Carmella Gormley, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as her former husband Donald Eash and his wife Helen with whom she shared a warm friendship in her later years.

In addition to her parents and her late husband, she was predeceased by her brothers William and Thomas Gormley, sister-in-law Elizabeth Gormley and grandson Michael Eash.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation, Monday, August 23, 2021, 9:00 – 10:00 AM at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA  19073, followed by her Funeral Mass, 10:00 AM.  Interment SS Peter and Paul, Springfield, PA.
