Dora Scogna (née Duerr), born November 6, 1936, in Philadelphia, daughter of Francis Xavier Duerr and Ella Nittmann, passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She was a graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls and attended Abington School of Nursing.
In 1955, she married Jules V. Scogna in Philadelphia, and together they raised eight children : Dora Mead (Scott), Jules Scogna (Kim), John Scogna (Joanne), Michael Scogna (Soon Hee) , Nicholas Scogna (Camille), Diana Scogna, Edward Scogna (Bridget), and Judi McGettigan (Neil).
Her legacy includes her eight children, her 18 grand-children : Luke, Daniel, Brianna, Julia, Jules, Gregory, Kristi, Joseph, Cassandra, Dominic, Jeremy, Nikki, Lena, Lucas, Avery, Richard, Katie, Sydney.
And her eight great-grandchildren : Juliana, Nicolas (Nico), Chistopher (Tito), Anthony, Arden, Iris, Cooper and Joseph…. with still more to come!
Dora devoted her life to her family as a full-time mother and homemaker. Despite the demands of raising her large family, she always found time to help others through volunteer missions and later as a teacher’s aide. She eventually retired after many years of service in the Upper Darby School District.
She will be remembered for her boundless energy, as a loving and devoted mother, homemaker, and cook, as well as for her many creative talents. She was an avid gardener and gifted seamstress who lovingly created clothing for her family, including beautiful wedding dresses for her daughters and daughters-in-laws.
Dora was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Laurence Catholic Church where she participated in the choir and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, generously giving her time to help feed and clothe families in need.
She was a kind and thoughtful woman whose loyalty to her family and friends never wavered.
Dora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jules (1930–1995), and her cherished son Michael (1959–2024) and her brothers Reimar and Gerhart.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Friday, May 29th from 9:30-11:30 a.m.for a viewing followed by Mass services at 11:30 am at: Saint Laurence Catholic Church located at 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
