Donald J. “Don” Shannon, age 101, of Riddle Village, Media, PA, formerly of Havertown, PA, passed away on October 17, 2019. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late John and Mary Shannon (nee Riley).
Don was a 1936 graduate of West Philadelphia High School and attended the Wharton School of Business. Don was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, enlisting the day after Pearl Harbor. He flew 60 missions as a Bombadier/Navigator in a B-26.
In 1946, he married his sweetheart, Mary G. Shannon (nee Harkins), and they enjoyed 71 years of married life together. He had been employed as a Sales Manager for Prudential Insurance Company in Havertown, PA and retired at the age of 62.
Don was an artist throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and pool player. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He traveled with the Annunciation Social Club and was a longtime parishioner of Annunciation BVM Church in Havertown, PA.
At the age of 91, Don and his wife, Mary, moved to Riddle Village, where he made new friends.
Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary and his sisters Eleanor S. Boisson and Laura Shannon.
He is survived by his loving children Don Paul Shannon (Aleph Ashline), Maryanne Fisher (Dennis), Kathleen Cellucci (Robert), Thomas Shannon (Jean), Patricia Shannon, Teresa Hagenbach (Thomas) and Eileen Wert (Michael). Also survived by his 17 grandchildren Damien (Michele), Rebecca (Pete), Maureen (Jim), Megan (Chris), Neal (Jen), Brett (Jess), Dan (Jenna), Michelle (Bern), Keith (Michele), Mary, Molly (Trevor), Monica (Chris), Patrick (Sarah), Doug, Tim, Patrick and Amy, his 14 great-grandchildren Evelyn, Henry, Archie, Ian, Kiera, Emma, Kitt, Mary Jo, Miles, Lincoln, Jack, Elizabeth, Mabel and Baby McLaughlin, his sister, Alice S. Carroll, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Monday, October 21, 2019 9:30-10:50 AM at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd., Havertown, PA and to his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment Holy Cross, Yeadon, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Food For The Poor, 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, FL 33073, would be appreciated.
