Donald G. Rising

Donald “Don” G. Rising, 83, of West Chester, PA passed away on September 9, 2026.

Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late George Colbert and Dorothy (née Chappell) Rising.

Don was a 1961 graduate of Classical High School in Springfield, MA, a 1965 graduate of Brown University where he studied Psychology with a minor in Russian literature and a 1967 graduate of University of Iowa, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Actuarial Science.

He worked as an Actuary at Rohm & Haas, Philadelphia for a majority of his profession and after his retirement from Rohn & Haas, he joined the Vanguard Group where he finished his career. He was a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Don was a loyal and longtime member of United Church of Christ East Goshen, where he sang in the choir and served as the church treasurer. Don was also a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Chancel Choir and a member of the Coin and Currency Club of Chester County.

In his downtime, Don enjoyed playing Bridge, singing with the Main Line Ecumenical and Wayne Oratorio Choirs, watching and regularly attending Philadelphia Phillies games, fishing, collecting coins and stamps, and above all else, spending time with his 12 grandchildren whom he adored. He always had a smile on his face, and his wit, jokes, and humor will be forever missed.

Don was the beloved husband, for 56 years, of Gloria Marie (née Serra) Rising; loving father of Jonathan (Marie Helene), Julia Texeira, Joanna Patterson (Tom) and Jessica Miller (Jeremy); proud grandpa of Noelle, Luc, Drew, Eva, Lexi, Broden, Jake, Amy, Paige, Owen, Noah Donald and Emma; and dear brother of Ronald A. Rising (Sharon) and the late Beverly Catt.

Family and Friends are invited to Don’s visitation and funeral service at Westminster Presbyterian Church located at 10 W. Pleasant Grove Rd, West Chester, PA 19382 on Monday October 5, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with services immediately following at 11:00 a.m.
