Donald C. Johnson, age 68, of Broomall, PA, passed away on May 27, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, PA Don was the son of the late Jean (nee Ford) and Donald Johnson.
Don was raised in a military family, moving throughout the country before eventually settling in Westbrook Park, PA. He attended Cardinal O’Hara High School, where in 1973 he met the love of his life, his wife Joan, in math class. They were married in October 1977 and soon moved to Broomall, where they built a beautiful home, raised their family, and were surrounded by wonderful neighbors and friends.
From an early age, Don was guided by a strong sense of honor and hard work. At just 13, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, a milestone that marked the beginning of a lifelong dedication to scouting. For nearly four decades, Don’s unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on Boy Scout Troop 315. Since 1984, he served as a devoted mentor, shaping generations of young men. Beyond teaching scouting skills, Don instilled core values such as resilience, teamwork, and integrity, fostering confidence, capability, and compassion in countless individuals.
Don found great fulfillment in his career as an automotive technician, taking pride in his meticulous workmanship and attention to detail. Beyond his skill, Don especially valued the opportunity to mentor young mechanics, sharing years of knowledge and experience.
Outside of work, he enjoyed vintage car shows, collecting Boy Scout memorabilia, playing Solitaire, solving crossword puzzles, and spending time on carpentry projects. He also had a deep appreciation for music, often relaxing while playing his guitar. Don felt most relaxed in nature, whether camping with the Scouts or visiting Cape May, NJ, where he created many lasting memories.
Don is survived by his beloved wife Joan Johnson (nee Dudley), loving children Donald Johnson Jr., Laura Jean Gill (Patrick), Sean M.E. Johnson, adoring grandchildren Syd Johnson and Dominic Johnson and beloved nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by his sisters Patricia Ferro and Donna Houpt.
Family and friends are invited to Don’s Visitation from 9:30 – 11:00 AM on Friday, June 5th at St. Anastasia’s Church 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment is private.
