Diane Varano (née Cleary), 84, a long-time resident of West Chester, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, after a brief illness.
Born on July 18, 1941, Diane graduated from Lansdowne-Aldan High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University. She later attained a Master of Arts in Education from Villanova University.
Diane led a full life, managing a diverse career in social work, insurance, and finance alongside family responsibilities. She found her time as a senior guide specialist at Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library particularly rewarding as it combined her professional expertise with her personal interests.
In her retirement, Diane embraced the quiet joys of gardening and reading, and she especially cherished the many summers spent in her Cape May home, hosting her beloved grandchildren.
Diane is survived by Michael, her loving husband of over 60 years; her children, Michele and Brian; her grandchildren Colin, Sarah, and Julia; and her sister, Barbara Saporetti (Matthew), as well as her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Pond, and her parents, Norman and Helen Cleary.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, https://bvspca.org/donate/honor-a-life to honor her love for animals and her special devotion to the cats she adopted from them.
Services will be private.
