Diane Marie Thornton, of Media, PA, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, sadly passed away on January 15, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (née Ward) Leahy.
Diane was the loving mother of Jennifer Ellis (Paul), Kristin Bittle (Del), and Beth Ann Ertel (Brian); devoted grandmother of Dylan Bittle, Riley Bittle, Cooper Bittle, Luke Ellis, Grace Ellis, Mason Ellis, Jack Ertel, and Avery Ertel; and dear sister of Patricia Pugliese (Ed), James Leahy (Karen), Michael Leahy and Maureen Campbell (Michael). Diane is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Eileen McCauley (John) and John Leahy.
Diane was the beloved matriarch of her family and a woman loved beyond measure. She had a gift for bringing people together, and nothing brought her greater joy than hosting family and friends. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and a sense that everyone who entered was truly special and deeply valued.
Some of her happiest moments were spent down the shore with her children and grandchildren — time she cherished above all else. Those days, surrounded by family, reflected who she was at her core: loving, present, and devoted to the people she held dear.
Her loyalty to friends and family was immeasurable. She stood by those she loved with unwavering strength, kindness, and generosity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Her legacy lives on through her children, Jennifer, Kristin, and Beth Ann, and through the many lives she touched with her compassion, hospitality, and love. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to be felt in family traditions, shared memories, and the enduring bonds she created.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor Diane at a Visitation 9:30-11:00 AM Saturday, January 24, 2026 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N. Providence Road, Media, PA 19063, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment private.
