Dennis M. Rush, 77, of Malvern, PA passed away, peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 10, 2024.
Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1946, Dennis was the 2nd of four kids of the late Joseph F. and Dolores “Dee” (née Hennessey) Rush.
Dennis was the beloved husband of Sonia (née Hostikidou) Rush; loving father of Anndi Sheppard (Darren), Tricia Zwiercan (John), Mary Beth Rush and the late Denise M. Rush (Rich); proud grandfather of Spencer, Cate, Heather and Molly; dear brother of Martin J. Rush (Michele); brother-in-law of Betty Ann Rush (the late Joseph), Christos (Voula), Niki Hostikidou and Christos Markou (the late Liza). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings; Joseph J. Rush and Nancy Fundalewicz (née Rush).
Denny grew up in the tight-knit family and tight-knit community of West Philadelphia, where he could be found hanging with his siblings and cousins or getting into trouble with the boys in the “big yard”
A proud American and patriot, he enlisted in the US Airforce and served for 8 years, including several tours in Vietnam. It was during his enlistment that he met the love of his life and best friend, Sonia, while stationed in Greece.
Marriage and children brought him back to the US (#DELCO!!!) where they raised 4 daughters. He was proud to support his family, working a variety of jobs until settling into a career with FedEx, for 20 years of loyal service, until his retirement.
Not ready to settle into his easy chair, life moved them to Chester County and back to service at the Manoa American Legion Post 667, where he proudly served as Steward. Sonia joined Dennis in retirement and they enjoyed traveling the world, visiting many places. They especially loved their many trips to Greece to visit and spend time with family. But their hearts were always at home in Pennsylvania.
His favorite role, along with Sonia, was by far that of Pop-pop and he loved nothing more than snuggling a sleeping baby, attending their birthday parties, dances, and sporting events, and just plain spoiling them rotten.
Sundays from September through January were exclusively reserved for the Eagles, a die-hard fan through good and bad.
He loved hosting parties, being surrounded by his siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends and was never quite as content as when we were all together- eating, drinking, singing, and dancing.
So it was fitting that his final farewell was surrounded by the whole family enjoying a little music, a little Tully, and a lot of laughter.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 11:30 AM-12:30 PM Saturday, February 17, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 104 Channing Ave, Malvern, PA followed by his Funeral Mass 12:30 PM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cem.
