David P. Ryan, of Havertown, PA, a dedicated Philadelphia Police Officer and proud Vietnam Army Veteran, passed away on December 26, 2025, at the age of 84. David lived a life marked by service, commitment, and a deep sense of duty to his community.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (née Fisher) Ryan.

A graduate of St. Thomas More High School, David exemplified the spirit of dedication and resilience from an early age. His commitment to serving others led him to join the U.S. Army, where he fought bravely in Vietnam, earning the respect of his comrades and the gratitude of those he served. Following his military service, David brought this same steadfast dedication to the Philadelphia Police Department, where he devoted many years to maintaining safety and order in his city. His legacy as a police officer is defined by his unwavering commitment to justice and his compassionate approach to serving the community.

David will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his character and warm-hearted nature. He made a significant impact on the lives of those who had the privilege to know him, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.

David was the beloved husband of 61 years of Rosemary M. (née O’Neill) Ryan; the loving father of Peggy McGroarty (Bob), Rosemary “Roe” Ryan, Judy Harwood (Jonathan), David Ryan, Erin Quartapella (Nick), and Joseph “Joe” Ryan. He was the caring and devoted grandfather of his 13 grandchildren, Bobby, Matthew, Ryan, Patrick, Victoria, Daniel, Jonathan, Dylan, Alex, Morgan, Julia, Nicholas, and Laura. He is also survived by his “sister”, Judi Reiner, his sister-in-law, Dot Ryan, as well as many extended family, friends, and “brothers in blue”. David is predeceased by his brother, Joseph Ryan.

Family and friends are invited to honor David’s life and legacy at a Viewing on Monday evening, December 29, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and on Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025, from 8:30 – 9:30 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA. Interment thereafter at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
