David Helms was bom to David and Edith Helms on June 9, 1925 in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania.
He served in the US military from 1943 to 1951 in both the European and Asian
theaters. Once his military service was complete, he attended and graduated from the University of Delaware receiving both Bachelor and Master degrees. He went on to receive a Doctorate of Education from Temple university. Over the course of his career in education, he was a classroom teacher, and Head of both the Lower and Middle Schools at The Tatnall School in Wilmington, Delaware. In addition, his innovative approach to education shone in his time at Research for Better Schools, where he worked to improve instruction and student
achievement.
He retired in '1990, and his life thereafter was dedicated to his family, community,
and Saint Mary's Episcopal Church, where he was an engaged and dedicated parishioner.
He passed away peacefully on March 28, 2018 with his loving and devoted wife, Edith, by his
side. He also leaves behind his children David, Janet, Emily, and Abigail, and grandchildren
Brenna and Skyler. He is loved and will be missed by those who knew him.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of the Life of David C. Helms will be held on April 14, 2018 at
Saint Mary's Episcopal Church, 104 Louella Avenue, Wayne PA 19087 at 11 :00 a.m. The Mass will be followed by a luncheon reception at the Church.
