David L. Ferrell, born on February 13, 1937, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
David started his career as a beloved journalist for the Daily Record, where he used his gift for storytelling to engage and inform his community. Following working with paper he spent the majority of his career in Public Relations and Advertising. He worked at The Airline Pilots Association in Chicago, Carl Byoir in New York, then Gray & Rogers in Philadelphia. Eventually he started and owned 2 companies, first Ferrell Cleary Inc. and then DL Ferrell and Associates. David's career was characterized by his dedication to his craft, which reflected both his keen intellect and his compassionate view of the world.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, David was passionate about education, teaching the adult certificate program at Villanova. His commitment to mentoring others demonstrated his kindhearted nature and his desire to uplift those around him. He was known for his giving personality, wit, and ability to make those in his presence feel valued and appreciated. David was truly a larger-than-life figure in the lives of many who had the privilege to know him.
David treasured his family, finding joy in every moment spent together. He is survived by his children, David Ferrell (Christine) and Amy Avellino (Greg), along with his grandchildren, Shea, Brandon, Jesse, and Samantha, who brought him immense pride and happiness. His sister, Margie Shorb (Michael), also mourns his passing. David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Beverly Ferrell, and his parents, Arthur and Evelyn (nee Bortz) Ferrell.
Throughout his life, David enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests that enriched his experiences. He had a penchant for crossword puzzles, sketching, and painting, which showcased his creativity. His love for gardening and cooking filled his home with warmth and flavor. Traveling to places such as Ireland, Portugal, as well as, cruising in the Caribbean brought him joy and adventure. His lifelong passion for fishing started at Sprucie's Dam, Ohio, Louborough Lake, Canada, Silver Lake and Arrowhead Lake, Poconos, and Marsh Creek. A passion that he was grateful to share with his children, grandchildren and special friends Jim, Len, Chuck and Don.
A gathering to honor David's life will take place on September 25, 2025, at Donohue Funeral Home - Newtown Square, located at 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Friends and family are invited to visit from 9:30 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:30 AM. A graveside service will occur at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Rd., Springfield, PA 19064, beginning at 12:00 PM.
David L. Ferrell will be remembered for his generosity, his love for family, and his enduring impact on the lives he touched. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
