Darrell Joseph Corcoran, born on November 23, 1947, in Streator, Illinois, peacefully passed away on December 18, 2025, at the age of 78. Darrell lived a life filled with laughter, love, and an unwavering commitment to his family. His legacy as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend will forever echo in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
A proud honors graduate of the University of Illinois, Darrell was known for his good sense of humor and playful spirit. He had a deep love for his family and was extremely involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always making time for them and sharing in their joys. After graduation, he began teaching spelling and reading as well as coaching basketball at Midwest Military Academy. Following his years at Midwest, he had a successful career at Prudential where his results-oriented approach and commitment to excellence led him to advancement. He served as a Director of Property and Casualty until his retirement.
Darrell was also a devoted member of St. Jude Parish in Chalfont for decades, contributing his time and talents to the community around him. As a CYO basketball coach at St. Jude Parish, he not only taught the game but also instilled values of teamwork and sportsmanship in the youth he mentored.
Darrell was happily married to his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Corcoran (nee Sheedy) for 54 wonderful years. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Carey (James) and Kathleen Corcoran (Monica Ayres), along with his grandchildren, Jackson and Adriana Carey, his sister, Linda Anderson (the late Robert), nephew Rob and many other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine Corcoran (nee Ragusa), and his niece, Erica. The warmth of Darrell's character and the joy he brought to all who knew him will be remembered fondly.
An avid sports fans, Darrell enjoyed rooting for the Los Angeles Dodgers and his beloved Fighting Illini and all Philadelphia sports teams. He loved family vacations and post-retirement he and Barb would travel often to Illinois, Walt Disney World and San Diego. Of course, no trip to California would be complete without a trip to Los Angeles to see the Dodgers and to have a Dodger Dog.
Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy remains alive through the laughter he spread, the love he cultivated, and the lives he touched.
Family and friends are invited to attend Darrell’s viewing on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 800 Lancaster Avenue, Villanova, PA. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Youth Organization of Philadelphia, 222 North 17th Street, Philadelphia PA 19103.
