Cyrus L. Mineo

February 10, 1937 — May 27, 2026

Cyrus L. Mineo, MD, age 89, formerly of Phoenixville, PA, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, after a long and fulfilling life.

Born and raised in Scranton, PA, Cyrus “Cy” was the son of the late Cyrus R. and Lillian (née Ottaviani) Mineo. He graduated cum laude from the University of Scranton in 1958 and earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. Following his internship at Scranton State and General Hospital, he proudly served two years in the U.S. Air Force in Rome, NY.

Cy completed his residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and became board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Throughout his distinguished career, he was an active member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He spent much of his professional life caring for patients through his ophthalmology practice in Phoenixville, where he became a trusted physician and respected member of the community. Known for his warmth, compassion, and attentive care to his patients, he built lasting relationships with countless people who valued not only his medical expertise but also the genuine interest he took in their lives. He approached medicine as both a profession and a calling, earning the respect and affection of patients, colleagues, and friends alike.

After retiring, Cyrus moved to the beach in Ocean City, NJ, and was often seen with a New York Times crossword puzzle close at hand or at the gym. A lifelong dog lover, he was devoted to his boxer dogs. Later in life, he discovered a passion for cooking Italian food as part of his pride in his Italian heritage. Though he had slowed down in recent years, he continued to approach life with the same determination and independence that had defined him throughout his life.

Predeceased by his wife Nancy (née Mullaney) Mineo, the father to Marcella Mineo Sturman (James Sturman, K.C.) and Mary Gayle Mineo (Anthony Pagano), and grandfather to Michael, Jonathan, and Mark Sturman, and Adam and Liliana Pagano.

Cy’s passing sees the last of his generation of our family leave this earth.
