On the morning of Saturday, August 19, Christine “Chris” Huf (nee Witt) 53, of Drexel Hill, passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Born November 22, 1969 in Flushing, New York, she was the daughter of Margaret and the late John Witt.
Chris is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Peter, adoring children, Myles (Leah), Michael (Jaclyn) and Matthew (Kaitlin); and her “grandchickens” June, Lainey, Julian, Henry, Vera; Also survived by her sister Constance Bennett (Sean), brothers Matthew, Kenneth, Daniel (Danielle) and many nieces and nephews.
Chris began her life in Queens, New York after which she moved to Hillsdale, New Jersey where she attended Pascack Valley High School. While these locations shaped Chris’ early years, it was Lake Naomi (Pocono Pines, PA) that would inevitably shape the rest of her life. In the beginning, her favorite adventures included snowmobiling, boating and swimming with her Mom, Dad, brothers and sister. It was also here where Chris met Pete one fateful night at the locally famous “Gert’s.” This would anchor her legacy “at the lake” for almost 50 consecutive years. Time at the beach or pool while surrounded by her family and closest friends would serve as some of Chris’ fondest memories. These moments were only ever surpassed by the time sharing this special place with her “grandchickens.”
While not at the lake, Chris could be found raising her three boys in Drexel Hill and supporting her husband’s careers in the IAFF and the family's funeral business. It was here where she would consistently shuttle the boys between their home and St. Bernadette, Dermond Field, Monsignor Bonner, Cardinal O’Hara and later the University of Scranton and the Naval Academy. All the while still managing to plan countless girls’ nights and weekends. Additionally, her quick wit and “life of the party” attitude led to impressions that were felt at all levels of the UDFD.
Chris will be remembered forever as the center pillar for her family. Someone with an infectious smile. The life of the party. An incessant re-arranger and unofficial interior decorator. Tequila connoisseur. Someone who radiated positivity with quick thinking and quick decision making. A go getter attitude. A mom to more than just her kids. A best friend. A “Mimzie.” And in her final years the strongest most courageous person anyone had ever known.
