Charles Frederick “Fred” deLong passed away on August 23, 2026. He was born in Essex County, NJ to Helen St. John (Rose) and Oscar Anderson deLong Jr.
Fred wrote the following as his Obituary:
It’s taken me many years to internalize that this wasn’t my life alone, but a shared life with people, living things, the natural world…. out to the universe…. and mystery. I find it hard to express what this really means. I think about what makes – life; and then drop the thinking. I am surrounded by life, and I don’t need opinions or judgements to feel it and appreciate its basic goodness. At times, I can relax because there is nothing to gain or lose.
I can apply this to my memories. For those who knew me: thank you for sharing yourselves whether in our thoughts at the time it was good or didn’t seem good. I am rich for all that I’ve gained on this journey with you.
And, I can even apply it to countless other situations. For those who didn’t know me or I know them; passing strangers, sales people, honorable or dishonorable persons, etc., we all were part of a journey, and I hope that someday we will realize this and live without hatred and judgements that detract from respect and gratitude for the life process we share together.
Especially, for those who have been close in heart, I am always there with love,
Fred
