Charles E. Bowers, III, 42, of West Chester, PA passed away in the early hours of Monday, March 26, 2018.
Born in Glen Mills, PA in 1975, he was the son of Patricia (nee Ennamorato) and the late Charles E. Bowers, Jr.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Adriane A. (nee Mayo) Bowers; daughters, Lauren E. Bowers and Anneliese M. Bowers; step-daughter, Ruby Monaghan; sisters, Susan Bartman (nee Bowers) and Beatrix Wimber (nee Bowers); and his uncle, Bob Ennamorato and aunt, Marietta.
Chuck worked as a vibrational sound practitioner at the Brighten Center, and participated in the Refuge Recovery of Chester County. Through vibrational sound and his dedication to the group he was able to help cultivate a community around healing and holistic recovery. Photography was also an incredibly important part of his life. He was introduced to photography at the age of 5 by his grandfather who had a chemical dark room for processing photos in his house. He was immediately captivated by the art form. Several artists influenced Chuck throughout his journey as an artist, among them was his father who always encouraged expressionism through music, painting, photography, and wood-carving. Chuck, his grandfather, and his father shared a common link in music (three generations of saxophonists), taking photographs, and painting. He also had deep admiration for the Wyeth family, George Weymouth, Ansel Adams and countless more landscape and nature focused artists.
He fell in love with painting at age 11 when his father gave him a set of oil paints and brushes- a love he later would share with his daughters. Growing up near Chadds Ford, PA, Chuck would try to capture the beauty of the Brandywine River Valley through painting and photography and would often visit the Brandywine River Museum to marvel at the work of local artists. Visiting the Laurels Preserve played a critical role in the Chuck's personal development and artistic vision as a spot he returned to time and time again to explore throughout his life.
At 15, he signed up for his first "school photography" class at Marvelwood School in Kent, Connecticut. Chuck learned a method of nature photography that combined using a tripod and a manual SLR camera.
He became hooked and spent most weekends in the mountains taking photographs with his classmates.
His time in Connecticut firmly cemented a love for being outdoors both through photography and the cultivation and encouragement of his passions by his teachers and peers. A photography hobby quickly transformed into a passion for artistic self-expression and planted the idea that perhaps one day this could become a way of life.
In addition to his passion for art, Chuck enjoyed hiking and driving cross country out West to Utah where he was able to merge these essential interests. He was an avid Flyers fan and hockey lover, and deeply loved his dogs, Ezra and Haidi, and of course, the his late sidekick, Kato.
Services will be held Tuesday, April 3rd, at Westtown School Meeting House, 975 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA 19382 at 5 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Brandywine Conservatory, PO Box 141, Chadds Ford, PA 19317 would be appreciated.
